Consciousness and the Law of Attraction
There are many definitions of consciousness by various religious and philosophical organizations. I refer to Consciousness here as the process of becoming aware of the thoughts and beliefs that we hold that are unconscious. The dilemma is that we are unconscious meaning we are not aware of the thoughts and beliefs that often underlie our actions. It is like driving a car - How often do you stop to think about how to drive, turn the wheel, step on the gas, turn on the blinkers? You don't. So often our actions are just like that - unconscious. Our unconscious thoughts are created as a result of our early childhood upbringing. As children we are born in a perfect state of being. Each incidence acts to create a pattern of relating to our worlds beginning with even the simplest things like having our basic needs attended too. Consciousness gets buried by emotions that are repressed and suppressed and the defenses of the ego that are intended to protect us from feeling the pain of being attached to our caregivers and learning that we are also separate beings with our own separate feelings. We develop personas or masks to survive and get on with our lives. Our core sense of self becomes scattered as we try to live pleasing others to be loved. Our unconsciousness can be seen in our feelings which begin in the body. Conscious living is the art of feeling your feelings, knowing who you are- that you are a separate being with separate feelings and carrying out effective actions that support you as being a whole person. Living unconsciously we live in the same old ruts - working in jobs that are unfulfiling and staying in relationships that drain us rather than help us come alive. When we are able to learn that it is ok to have our feelings but that we don't always have to act on them, we become more authentic and present.
