Uncovering Shadow Beliefs - Debbie Ford

Debbie Ford is an author and teacher of the shadow process of uncovering your unconscious beliefs. Her two books "The Dark Side of the Light Chasers" and "The Secret of the Shadows" are the start of her path to helping others uncover the false beliefs or what she calls the "shadow beliefs" about yourself.

It is really one of the themes of the law of attraction and one of the most difficult. It is a process to uncover your unconscious beliefs because after all they are unconscious.

Carl Jung was one of the first to speak about the shadow process. His famous words of "What is unconscious will become our fate" (or various versions of that quote) are the basis for Debbie Fords "Shadow Work".

The Shadow is all of the parts of ourselves that we try to deny. We all have them whether we are willing to accept that statement or not. The messages we get while growing up turn into concrete beliefs that are too painful to bear. We keep these parts hidden from others and even ourselves for fear that we will not be accepted or loved. The shadow shows up in our projections onto other people. When something brings a strong emotional reaction to you chances are you are projecting a part of your shadow onto others. It is so easy to see things in others easier than it is to see it in ourselves. There is usually something that "hooks" us into projecting. Projections give us an opportunity to look at the hurt place in ourselves that we see in others. Debbie Ford says "We only see what we are". She goes on to say "We suppress our own angry feelings and judge people we see as angry. Since we lie to ourselves about our own internal feelings, the only way we can find them is to see them in others. Other people mirror back our hidden emotions and feelings which allows us to recognize and reclaim them."

Most of our life is spent trying to prove those beliefs for ourselves. It is what creates the drama we live with. It is reflected in our work, relationships and life. It requires a certain amount of self confidence to start looking at that side of ourselves. But Debbie Ford says "If you are human, you have a shadow".

The Shadow Process is process of learning to accept those parts of ourselves that we hate and hide. This is part of the lessons in the law of attraction - accepting ourselves and who we are and being grateful for what we have created on our path of awakening.

Debbie was even featured on Oprah and offered her assistance in uncovering a belief of Oprah's that she had around eating. Lifestyle Makeovers at Oprah.com
